Which hospitals do you have associations with?
We are both on-staff at the 3 Main Line Health hospitals: Bryn Mawr, Paoli Memorial and Lankenau.
What if I have questions or need to have my child seen outside of office hours?
There is always a doctor on call and available to deal with emergency situations out of hours. Call the office number: 610-293-2229; the Answering Service will page the doctor on call.
What age patients do you see?
We see newborns to 18 year olds.
How do you feel about breastfeeding?
We are both strong supporters of breastfeeding as being the ideal nutrition for babies. We are delighted that so many of our patients are successfully breastfed for much of their first year of life and will do our best to help you prepare for an equally rewarding experience. However nursing is not the right choice for everyone. Please feel free to discuss this with us at any time.
How long will I have to wait for an appointment?
Sick children can always be seen by a doctor on the same day. To make an appointment for a check up we suggest calling at least a week in advance, perhaps more during the summer months. Once you are in the office you will generally be seen within 10 minutes.
What if my child needs to see a specialist?
As an independent practice we are able to refer to any hospital or specialist pediatrician. We will advise you as to whom we feel is the best choice; but the final decision is yours, within the limits set by your insurance plan.
Do you call-in prescriptions for antibiotics and other medicines?
We believe that it is important to minimize the use of antibiotics; therefore we almost never prescribe them without examining the patient first. For chronically used medications we will call-in refills, but routinely re-evaluate all patients on long-term medication every six months.
What if my child needs hospitalization?
For most cases, we feel that the pediatric in-patient service at Bryn Mawr Hospital is excellent. More specialized care is also available there and at affiliated centers.
What is special about your practice?
We are proud of our reputation for excellent and very personal pediatric medical care. This was validated by the award of ‘Best Pediatrician’ in Main Line Life magazine’s 2006 Reader's Poll. Both doctors have earned board certification or equivalent and both doctors are recent recipients of the American Academy of Pediatrics Education Program Award.
In addition, we feel that our office is particularly child-friendly and that we and our staff all try very hard to make our patients feel comfortable. Because we are a small practice, you will quickly get to know our doctors and all of our team.
Tell us about your philosophy of care.
We believe that pediatrics should be much more than treating childhood ailments. The most common causes of death in children over one year are accidents... many of which are predictable in light of the child’s developmental stage, and therefore avoidable. At each check-up we will discuss these issues with you and help you make your child’s environment safer. Most parents have concerns about behavioral issues; as part of our anticipatory guidance at each visit, we warn you of what to expect behaviorally and how to head off problems with sleeping, eating and behavior before they begin.
What if I have more questions?
Both doctors are happy to meet with prospective patients either during your pregnancy or whenever you may be looking for a new pediatrician. There is no charge and no obligation incurred for these meetings.
